Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: IlluStory/My Story

Q

Do I have to use the markers you include in the kit or can I make my drawings with something else?

A

You can use any water based color makers to make your illustrations. Markers that indicate they are either non-toxic or washable, are definitely water based. Unfortunately, use of crayons, paints, colored pencils etc., is not allowed.

Q

Can I attach photos to IlluStory pages?

A

If using mail in production, you can only do so yourself, after you receive back your book. However, newer IlluStory kits provide you with the option to include the author's photo on the "About the Author" Page. If you do not have a newer kit and want this option, send in your materials with an additional $2.95, a wallet sized photo of the author, and a note to this effect. You also have the option to create an Illustory book online, in our internet production area. There will be a small additional charge to upload pictures, but the option is available online. You might also want to try a PhotoStory Jr. or PhotoStory kit which allows for drawings and/or photos on any page. See the Retail Kits section for more information.

Q

Can I put more than 20 words on a book page?

A

Yes, by either handwriting or typing it yourself. You can use the area just below the drawing box, where we normally type, for this purpose. However, leave a 3/8" margin on the left side where we bind, and note in your instructions the other useful tips provided on this subject.

Q

Can I put more than 12 pages in my book?

A

Unfortunately no. We suggest buying additional kits and making multiple book volumes, or purchasing a PhotoStory Jr. or PhotoStory kit which provides you with all the materials you need to make a book up to 50 pages in length (15 pages are included in the standard kit price.)

Q

Will I get another chance to order reproductions of my items after you produce them?

A

As with all our kits, you are given the option of buying additional reproductions of your item both before and after it is made. Your finished item will be returned with a repurchase form. However, orders for five or fewer additional items are a few dollars less expensive when ordered at the time your item is first produced

Q

Will my submitted About the Author photograph be returned to me?

A

If you choose to Archive your book, your photo will not be returned to you. However, you can request at any time to have the photograph returned to you, but please note that if you want to have reproductions made, we will need the photograph sent back to us.
